Ballistic deficit compensation method for a large-volume HPGe detector at high count rates

【摘要】Alarge-volumeHPGedetectornormallyhasasevereballisticdeficitduetoitslongrisetimeoftheoutputsignals.Despitethetrapezoidalshapingalgorithmadoptedasaremedytodealwiththesignals,thealgorithmcannotfullyeliminatetheballisticdeficitinthecaseofahighcountingrate.Toresolvetheproblem,weproposeaballisticdeficitcompensationmethodthatisbasedonthemeasurementofrisetimeofthesignalsbeforeshaping.Wefindthattheballisticdeficitaftertrapezoidalshapinghaslittlerelationtothetimeconstant,butshowsaquadraticrelationshipwiththerisetimeandhasanegativecorrelationwiththeshapingtime.Inthecaseofhighcountrates,thehighresolutionishandledbyfittingthecurvetotherisetimeandtheamplitudedeficitofthesignalaftershapingandbycompensatingforthesignalamplitudeaftertrapezoidalshaping.Testsindicatethatwhenthecountrateisabout100kcps,theresolutionofCo-60improvesfromtraditional2.32upto1.91keV,thusreachingahigherlevel.
